Join our team of inspirational leaders by learning how to run a high-quality unit, provide a great programme and support your girls.
To become a leader, you’ll need to complete our Leadership qualification.
Without our 80,000 leaders, guiding simply wouldn’t happen. Being a leader is one of our most rewarding roles as you get to work directly with girls, supporting them and helping them to grow into confident young women.
Who can complete this qualification?
You can start working towards your Leadership qualification when you are 16. However, you can only become a leader once you are 18. While working towards your Leadership qualification you will be referred to as a leader in training.
What will I learn?
The first three modules of our Leadership qualification are compulsory. After you complete them, you will be qualified as an assistant leader and will be awarded your Leadership qualification.
How long will it take?
There is no set time for completion of the Leadership qualification, but it generally takes about six months to complete.
What training and support will I get?
Everyone who undertakes our Leadership qualification is assigned a mentor – a qualified leader who will guide you through the syllabus and support you by answering any questions you may have.
Our Being a leader videos are also designed to help provide an introduction to a unit role in Girlguiding.
As part of the Leadership qualification, you will also need to attend 1st Response (first aid) training and A Safe Space training on safeguarding.
