World Thinking day

Using imagination to travel around the world whilst learning and exploring new countries.

Every year on the 22nd February girl guides around the world celebrate World Thinking Day. It’s a time for girls to learn and try new things about different countries, whilst thinking of others in other countries.

One of our Rainbow units in Worthing Cissbury decided to hope aboard a “plane” to visit 4 countries to explore, learn and even taste some food to celebrate this special day within their unit meeting.

Passports please

As the girls arrived into our hall, they were met at the ‘passport’ station. They were each able to pick up their very own passport and asked to add their picture into it, so they knew who’s was who’s as they got ready to board the first “plane”. With their boarding pass and their passport in hand, they boarded our private jet for the evening.

Now boarding for flight ‘Thinking Day’

Our first stop was China – where the girls first learnt a bit more about the country and tried their skills with chop sticks by picking up and transferring as many cotton wools balls in a minute.

After China, we boarded the “plane” once again through passport control to get that important stamp.

Next stop was Australia!

As we landed in the ‘land down under’ the girls got to see and hear more about some of the wildlife along with playing Kangaroo’s. We tried to see who could jump the highest with some of the girls getting pretty high up. Next was to see who could jump the furthest.

Time to board the plane again, this time it was a bit of a longer flight to our next destination, so our helpful ‘flight attendants’ handed out some much needed drinks and snacks, which were enjoyed by all.

Once we touched down in Brazil, we found out more about some interesting facts and then moved to the field to play some football! We set up some cones and the girls dribbled the ball around each one, improving on their skills whilst having fun.

We quickly caught our last flight to Italy, this time some of the girls decided to have a quick ‘nap’, especially after playing football in Brazil.

After we landed we explored and learnt more about some of the famous buildings and heard from some of the girls who have visited Italy before. During our exploring we found a little pizzeria, where the girls sampled a classic margarita – which everyone thought was delicious.

Home sweet home

As we boarded our flight home, the girls sang some songs to pass the time. The “plane” landed just in time for parents to pick the girls up and take them home for a much needed rest.

Visiting the world was very exciting and the girls got to learn and do some fun and exciting activities along the way.
